Lizzy is a horselover and LOVED riding Grandad's horses! She had a perma-smile on her face and it was hard to get her off at the end of the day.
It was a beautiful day at the ranch! The kids had a great time!

Here we are at the Zoo. Lizzy had fun making a variety of faces for Grandad.

Somehow my pictures at the Chinese restaurant are right in the middle of the zoo pictures, but everyone was so hungry that they gobbled down the chinese food like it was going out of style

While we were visiting the african area at the zoo, one on the giraffes escaped and ran into the zebra/ostrich area and scared them to death. Then the giraffe tried to jump the fence and got stuck over the top of the fence. It was kind of scary! Don't have any shots of it , although Steve has it on video. That's my next lesson, how to download video to blog!

Nova Scotia June 2007

Here are some pictures of our trip. We traveled from NOva Scotia to PEI. It's called the peaceful island and it is indeed.

New Brunswick June 07

These pictures were taken at Hopewell Rock in New Brunswick in the Bay of Fundy. This is a very unique place as when the tides come in there is a 50 foot difference between low tide and high tide. So at the low tide you will see upswalking on the ocean floor between these very unique ricks that have been worn away over the centuries by the tides. Then it is followed by a picture of the high tide in the same place and people are kayaking during high tide. It is a beautiful area.

This is the land of the lobster. They fish for them with these lobster traps. The fisherman make 6 figure incomes fishing for lobster for 6 weeks out of the year...

We are going to a lobster feast tomorrow night. Looking forward to our first taste of fresh Lobster from NS. We've been eating seafood everyday since we've been here. Delicious shrimp, mussels, haddock, and especially scallops!! Yum!!

Only 40 people live in this community and they are all involved in the fishing industry. Live moves a lot slower here and it is a beautiful place to visit.

Here is Steve at the helm, his favorite place to be. We each got a day when we were the skipper and then a day to natigate, cook, and be the engineer.

The gulf islands are so beautiful, this photo doesn't come close to reality. But we loved the solitude of the area.

Here we are on the dock checking out the other vessels that were docked there. We stopped at a different marina every night.

Sailing

We just returned from a week of sailing. We took a sailing course and had an instructor on board for the entire week and learned the exciting sport of sailing. Steve and I and Jeni and Brian came with us and we had a wonderful time. The weather was great, and we learned so much in just 5 days!!

Here is a picture of all of us on the last day. The wind was high and we had the boat leaning over - Wow it was a great time.

We learned how to handle the sail boat, navigate using the ocean charts, saw the most beautiful scenery on earth, and enjoyed being together.

Last Summer we spent a week out on the coast off of Vancouver Island in a beautiful place called Poets Cove. We watched the sail boats coming and going all week, and decided to go sailing this summer. Steve took a course this past winter on navigation and Steve and I, and Brian and Jeni are all going sailing for a week with an instructor. By the end of the week we will be certified as day skippers. I think it will be quite an adventure, and hopefully lots of fun. I will post pics as soon as we return.

It seems to strange that everyone is smiling at a funeral, but I guess in so many way it is a happy occasion. We will miss Grandad but rejoice in his wonderful life. By the way, Ian piped at the gravesite and it was wonderful. Above is Leo's 4 remaining siblings.

Libby sang a beautiful song at the funeral service. Wow, does she ever have a lovely voice!!

Dan came from Hawaii, Robyn and Melia couldn't make the very quick trip. Brian also came from North Carolina, but somehow we missed getting a pic of him. Bruce is trying to fit in between Steve and Dan.

Quick trip to Utah

We traveled Saturday late afternoon to Butte then drove the rest of the way to Utah on Sunday, arriving about 3. Taylor was a good traveler, although she had a hard time keeping her seat belt on!!
It was was a wonderful time to have the family together and reminissce about Grandad and remember the good times!!

I forgot to title the last entry. I wanted to name it "These are a few of my favorite things".
The first pic is of all of my grandchildren, except for Melia who was born the day the pic was taken. And the picture of Robyn was taken on the day Melia was suppposed to be born. She obviously had other ideas!! and the last one is my Sweetheart!! This was a self portrait we took a couple of weeks ago when we went to Banff on another occasion.

Taylor and Natalie! It looks like Taylor is stretching to be as tall as Natalie. Now I have another grand-daughter in Hawaii - Melia Renee- who I get to visit this week. so I'll post pictures of her next week Here is Natalie!! She left yesterday to go home with her mom, but I get to babysit her in two weeks when Brian and Jeni go to Boston.
Here is my darling Caty-lynne. She is a bundle of sweet personality and I love being with her. Smart as can be (and very opinionated ) but it was so much fun to have her here for a week
We took Bri and Caty-Lynne to the Science center one day and they had a great time. Here they had built a big fort out of foam blocks. Afterward they had even more fun knocking it down! Bri is in kindergarten and is becoming a good little reader. He's also growing up to be such a nice young man, very polite and absolutely loves his baby sister Lizzy and his cousins . He was always hugging Drew and Brayden and loved making Natalie smile.

After we landed in Calgary from Beijing, Cami met us at the airport and we went up to the chapel, where the Stake Presidency set her apart for her mission. Cami, Cyd, and Dave then left on a flight to SLC to go to the MTC the next day. Have a wonderful mission in the Ukraine. See you in 18 months.

Another cutie petutie. They are sure cute when they are small and very beloved, expecially if they are boy. Girls are often killed or left on the arphanage doorstep, as only one child per family is allowed.

These are people worshipping Buddah, by burning incense outside the Buddist Temple. they set the incense on fire and hold it between their hands, kneel, bow repeatly, and pray to Buddah, asking him for "Good Luck".

Truck loads of cabbage on the street was a commonn sight, it was bought up and sold by the end of the day. A staple in their diet.

Here are David and Linda Salmon, eating at one of the many Chinese Restaurants. the food was interesting - hmm- not at all like we are used to when we go out for Chinese. Most of the time we had to guess what we were eating. The soups were the worst - watery and tastless for the most part. By the end of the trip, McDonalds was looking pretty good.

The GREAT WALL of China was absolutely the highlight of our trip. The construction was started before Christ, and finished during the Ming Dynasty in the 15 century. It was very steep at places. Here is Laurie and I.

Inside the cloissone factory, it is an anciety chinese art form where solid brass is imbedded with colorful porcelain and then fired over and over 7 times, then sanded until it is smooth. Quite beautiful.

This is a motorcycle that has an exclosure over it. The "back seat" can hold two people. llMost people rode bicycles though

Here we are in Tianamin square, the largest outdoor square in the world. It is at the entrance to the Forbidden City, also the location of the death of so many students as they protested about 10 years ago.

This is a line-up of Chinese as they wait in line to see the body of Mao Se Tung, who died in the 70's. There is a large picture of him in the square and on all the money as well. His body lays in State in a glass casket in this building.

In many of the ancient cathedrals that we visited in Italy the walls or ceilings were covered in mosiacs. A mosiacs is a "picture "created using tiny tiles. These tiles never fade over time like paint might, so they are in their original beauty even thousands of years later

This is the leaning tower of Pisa. It was amazing to be there. It was a beautiful day and there were lots of vendors selling LV purses and other designer knock-offs.

This of course is the Collusium, in Athens, Greece. This building was built before Christ and it was amazing to see how huge it was. You can see that below the ground level there were rooms where the animals were kept, people lived, and the gladiators stayed before they were brought up on a lift to fight on the floor of the collusium.

This was one of the walls of the Sistine Chapel. The walls and ceiling were recently cleaned and restored, and they left a couple of dark squares so one can see how dirty and black it had become over the centuries. It was a remarkable experience to visit the Vatican and see these masterpieces done by Michelangelo. This wall is a representation of what happens to the spirit after death. I wish you could see in in detail.

This is taken in beautiful Venice. We rode in a gondola and it was an amazing experience. I didn't realize that Venice was an island. I don't what I was thinking, but we had to take a boat to Venice. I fell in love with all of Italy, but Venice was a place that I had always wanted to visit.

Today we went out to the Ranch for FHE with Rick & Chelle & kids and Libby and kids. We had a fun time going for a wagon ride and roasting hot dogs. The weather was beautiful and Dad was in his element driving the wagon for us. A true cowboy! We can't wait for all of you to come up and enjoy these wagon rides in the future! We spent a few hours at ghost today and had a great time. There were lots of misquitoes and flies but lots of fun! Dad pulled everyone around in the boat and we had a dam good time.

Another Rainy day

Thought this would be a good time to update since it's raining and I can't go out to walk. We had fun last night with some friends from Arizona, the Heinrichs. They were up to Calgary visiting Neil's mom and so we had them over for dinner. The kids have grown up over the last 11 years since they have been in Arizona. Faith, their baby is 13, Bryce is 17 , Ashley is 19, Greg is 23. Their oldest Chad is married and has 2 kids, living in Phoenix, and didn't come with them. It was fun to see and visit with them.

I also made some delicious salads, even though I couldn't taste them myself. But by all accounts, they were good. I made a potato salad, a pasta salad,, Yum, one of my favorites, and a green salad. That's what I ate. We also BBQ hamburgers and chicken breasts, and some BBq's beans.
You might be wondering why I didn't eat the salads. I would tell you but it's kind of like crying wolf. No one will believe me. I will wait for a few weeks then revele my secret.

Anyway, Rachel, oops Shelley, has been here for two days and left this morning at 5 a.m. to catch a plane for Fort McMurray. She will be back next tuesday for more dental work.

We also found out on the weekend that we are having another grandchild, that's 3 on the way. This one will speak italian!!

We have had alot of fun here for the last few days. BUT suprisinglyI havn't gotten sick. Lizzy has an ear infection and Jeni has something too. But We have been going to parks to feed the ducks and the geese all come and hog the bread, swimming pool, mall play place, and too much fort building! Brian and Robin get back tomorrow and I leave on Wednesday. They are going to be so busy with packing - I am glad I can be here to help!

I wish I was home today but only because DAD gets the day off and I could do some gardening. Well I just hope the weather stays nice for me!

hello everybody!!
I'm back, and this time it is really me (Mom) adding this post. I have been away from home for more that 3 weeks, and I am realy to get home. But I have had an amazing experience. Dad and I left for Italy on April 29 ande we spent one week in Italy and one in
Greece. I can't ever begin to tell all of the amazing places we visited and things we saw. Italy - what a beautiful country. It has to be o0ne of the most beautiful places on earth. But I say that about everywhere I visit - I'll write the details later with pictures. Greece, what can I say. A very amazing place, with good food, ancient everything, but hot, and dirty for the most part. We say some pretty incredible places though, places where the Apostle Paul had visited and taught. Places that I will tell about later with some more pics.

Now I am in North Carolina with Jeni and we are having fun with Bri, Caty-Lynne and Lizzy until nexst Wed when I return home. Brian just graduated from medical school last Sunday and then on Monday they went to Hawaii to celebrate. They are having a great time and so are we. One thng I can say is that I'm not as young as I used to be. And I had 4 kids in 7 years and babysat another 3 preschoolers full time, volunteered in the school, taught joy school, made all of our bread, yogert, mayonnaise, sewed all my own clothes, as well as making Steve's blue jeans, blah, blah, blah, I can hardly believe it myself. What a woman. !!!

Anyway this morning we tool the kids to the pool and soaked in some rays, and we are thinking about taking the crew out to dinner tonight. Sounds crazy, but we are tired of eating griloled cheese sandwiches and quisidallas.

I dont know what happened that day - I walked into Montana's and all of a sudden this happened. I was a moose. Steve didn't like it at first as you can see we had long discussion about it. Luckily when we walked out of there everything went back to normal. At least I was a cute Moose with a bow in my hair!

Good Morning! April 22 and it is snowing outside. Although it is supposed to clear up later today. Rick and Rach are here visiting with us this weekend. It's nice to see them. We are getting excited about our upcoming trip, although Dad has been so busy that he can't even think about it. Today he actually slept in until 6:45!! That's late for him lately.

Last night I made a shrimp stir fry and lobster tails. Yum!! I'll make it again when you come for dinner.

conference trip

Everybody,
Well we just got back from a weekend in Salt Lake City, attended most all of the conference sessions, and had a nice visit with Grandad and Betty Jean. We were staying at the Marriott down town SLC and could walk to all the sessions. President Hinckley gave a wonderful talk and it was so nice to see him. It looks like he has lost some weight from his illness and surgery. It's hard to believe he is almost 96. But it was a wonderful conference and we really enjoyed it. Our trip home yesterday went quickly, and despite our 1 hour wait at the border, we made it home in 14 hours.
We also had a chance to visit with George and Jeanette Oakes, dad's mission pres and that was wonderful. They were excited about Dad's new calling and gave him lots of advice.
I THought Grandad didn't look very good, his color is kind of grey, but it was nice to have a visit with him. He has lost some weight and looks thinner that he has for years.
We also ran into the McCorquindales, John and Jaaaanuuuuus, It was fun to see them. Elise is due with baby any day now. It's a boy.
Anyway, it's good to be home.

The Busy Life

Well, I know it's been awhile since I've posted, things have been crazy around here!
My Relief Society Humanitarian Service Project went over really well and we now have a load of kits to bring down to Salt Lake when we go to conference in a few weeks! The news channels were there and everbody tells me that I looked good on tv...well that doesn't surprise me!

Last weekend we had an Apostle come to reorganize our Stake Presidency, Elder Dallin H. Oaks. It was so neat to be in the presence of one of the Lord's anointed. He and Elder Smith (his visiting companion) gave excellent talks that inspired everybody in attendance. The Stake had a record attendance to Stake Conference of about 1901! wow...we need to have our stake reorganized more often to get that kind of attendance. Sunday morning, everyone was attentive to find out who the new SP would be...as they fidgeted in their seats they finally revealed that it was Dad! Everybody sustained him and nobody opposed, except for a little girl near the back that Libby saw put her hand up! I think she was having a tantrum. He has great vision for our Stake and looks forward to leading us for the next 9 or 10 years. I was released from my calling of Stake Relief Society President and so now I have some time to pamper my newly called hubby!

Today is lasagne Sunday and we're all just chillin here watching "Annie" and playing with cars on the kichen floor! Dad of course is at meetings but hopefully will be back in time for dinner. We miss you all and wish you were here with us for Sunday dinner.

Here is a picture of the new excersize room. In about a week Dan and Robyn are going to be working out in it with Dad and I. We are going to start a killer program and get in awesome shape!!
